Hi campers, many will know me from Toyota as the guy that owns an unmolested preserved Toyota Corona GT. So here are my thoughts and observations about 86 models based on a decision to try and find a keeper. About 1988 I bought an Ateco delivered SA series Suzuki GTi. 1300 cc pocket rocket 200 km/ h. By 2008 the value and price of these pocket rockets plummeted to $500. Last year sold all my spare parts and crushed five shells. Then came my 1989 JDM GT4 which I bought in 2008 for $4500 from a bankrupt importer. Again GT4 models have all but disappeared from sight and sale and again $2000 will buy you a much modified model with low is. Unmolested ? Hard to find. Now we seem to be going down the same road with the 86 with some hundreds for sale on gumtree and carsales. The Ppsr stats show ten 2012 models between 16000 and 25000 last period recorded and ten in wreckers with front and rear collisions, motors as cheap as $2500. High proportion IMO with only around 20000 86s sold. On some of the forums you see thousands spent on mods and only price drops. B Bump. Skylines seem to have same fate. In my car club guys see my collection as boring. Went to Datsun Nats found many of the cars modified mine again a non contender 280zx with 105000 k original books, plain old boring. I see many modified 86 s many with track work, but I also see hundreds for sale around 20000$ with 20000 to 100000 km. Going down the same fast and furious road to oblivion as the GTi, GTR, GT4. And lately I see so many Mustangs it’s almost like a commodore VL.
