I was wondering if anyone has come across any 'other' brand of tow hooks BESIDES the Cusco and BeatRUSH variants.
I'm specifically looking for the nylon type of hooks where you can just tuck the hookstrap behind the OEM bumper cover.
Macht Schnell Motorsport make them for BMW's but those use a proprietary thread pitch. 86/BRZ thread pitch is M16 x 1.5

I'm looking for this 'type' of tow hook.

Not a bad idea! Maybe this could be something StreetFx could develop for us?

each or a pair?

Also would people be more likely to want these hideaway tow hooks, or the 'in your face' cusco style ones?

here is the cusco style

I think I actually saw one of these hide-away ones on your FB page Mark. This was a couple of days ago, can't seem to find it. (wasn't a picture directly taken by yourself, was one of those random 86 ones with an 86 race car - probably taken in Japan)

They are around 90 each, but mind you, these are made for German cars(BMW - Macht Schnell Motorsport). I personally would prefer the tow strap vs the cusco in-your-face kinda look for a couple of reasons.
Less chance for people to fuck around with your car. Tow strap would obviously be marginally lighter, Less unwanted attention from the cops. You/other people won't accidentally stub their knees on it when working on the car. Less damage caused in an accident on the track/road.

OK I will get into it and see what we can sort out.

Only thing is it is an expensive exercise and would need to pay for all the moulds and tooling up front, so if we only sold 10x of them it would not be worthwhile.

I have seen the TRS tow straps available here.

http://shop.cartel-a...Strap-TRSTS.htm

But they don't screw straight into the stock holes on the 86.

Hmmm, thanks for that link.
  • Made from 5000kg load rated webbing, and with a steel plate to mount to the car (uses a 13mm mounting hole).
  • 10 inches (254mm) loop.
This may actually work - however you will need to drill a bigger hole through that 13mm hole to fit it. And possibly find a titanium bolt to secure it with. Doesn't mention the width of the metal or strap. Just measured the cavity in the styrofoam, there's a bit over an inch of space, maybe more if you don't mind hacking/melting(soldering) the foam away.

Also could possibly use a M16 Eyelet bolt. You'd have to find Nylon webbing to support the tow capacity though.

Red only(imho).
WTF: the ones that you are able to get made up, would they be able to have the nylon webbing/strap 'tucked in' behind the OEM cover? And also will the nylon webbing be able to support such a tow capacity. I think the round eyelet part may need to be slightly flush or 5mm behind the OEM cover so in the case of towing, the strapping won't damage the fascia of the bumper.

I think if you can get the '86' logo on the strap that would be pretty cool too!

Hmm.. I would never think that orange would be 'popular' but I'd like it :)

...oooh! with a black 86 logo ;)

specifically told them 5000kg.

the anchor point design i really need to get one of those BMW ones i think to get it replicated and then the correct thread put on it. Maybe I will do that now.

I suppose the BMW one doesn't have some massive bolt on it that could be altered using a tap and die set to fit the 86.
